About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience I've worked with a group from our church which has volunteered every summer for over 20 years. We've gone everywhere from Winnipeg to Dallas and River Falls WI to Newburg NY. Our most memorable trips......Romania and Maui, HI. It's always the homeowners who make the experience. We received cookbooks from the local Romanian Habitat which told the story and living conditions of each homeowner and homeowner-to-be. Habitat is enabling them to move from cardboard or salvaged wood shacks, crumbling basements with no windows and Communist block apartments with no heat. Their children were finally safe from all sorts of illness or the possibility of burning to death. All, this AFTER donating 200 hours of work just to get on the list of applicants. Language barrier...huge!! Warmth and enthusiasm barrier.....NONE!!

Why I volunteer Providing a home for children to be safe and happy. Plus, as a volunteer I never feel I have wasted a minute, the sites are so well supervised!!
