About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience I was part of the Americorps program, working as a full-time construction staff with Habitat. I loved the group I worked with - everyone really cared about the work, and the volunteers that worked with us came from all over - Minnesota, Canada, New York, etc. The affiliate used to be very small, only 2-3 houses a year, but expanded after Hurricanes Katrina and Irene in 2005. The community also was very welcoming, as we were building in a subdivision, and homeowners already living in their homes would come out and talk with us all the time.

Why I volunteer It makes me feel good, and it improves quality of life for hard working families, especially young children.
