Bali - Singaraja, Indonesia (June 2010)

Created by Jennifer E.
About my experience In Indonesia our team built two homes high up on a rain forest mountain. The rural area outside of Singaraja was known as Git-Git, which means water fall. I learned how to be a brick mason here, and enjoyed meeting the children at the local school. The ingenuity on the job site was remarkable. Instead of metal scaffolding, the locals felled a tree cross cut it, and ran it through the brick walls, so that we could stand on it for elevation as the brick courses progressed. Bali is an amazing place, so after the build I went to Ubud -Just like Julia Roberts in the movie Eat Pray Love. While I didn't fall in love with a man in Ubud, I did fall in love with the people of Bali, and with the Monkey Forest, where monkeys run free and will snatch your purse, if you're not careful.
