About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience I volunteered with over 100 other women from my community for Women Build Weekend at Sperry Lane in Lansing. This event encouraged mothers and daughters to build together. Although I've volunteered with Habitat for 9 years, at many sites and with a Global Village trip, my Mom had never helped before. Seeing her run a chop saw for the first time was as rewarding, satisfying and thrilling for me as for her! And, she was doing it right alongside local author and NPR contributor Amy Dickinson - the two of them had a great time.

Why I volunteer I volunteer with Habitat because when I was in college, away from home, I realized just how important home is. Having a safe, welcoming, familiar place to return to is something that many of us take for granted - I wanted everyone to experience the same wonderful 'home' feelings that I had.
