About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience My first experience was working on two houses sponsored by our church. I worked Saturdays and enjoyed the project. When I retired seven years ago I decided to volunteer to do more. Friends were working during the week on houses and I was assigned to the Thursday crew. We have 3 crews Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I work most Thursdays when I am in town.

Why I volunteer I enjoy the company of the other volunteers and learn building skills in fulfilling the mission of providing decent homes for families. Our construction supervisor is upbeat and has skill in construction management and people management. He keeps us from doing things wrong and is helpful in correcting our rare mistakes. Since a majority of our crew are Union Carbide retirees I have learned a lot about chemicals and chemical plants.
