About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience Putnam County Habitat became an affiliate in March 2009, the newest affiliate in Ohio. We dedicated our first home (3,000th HFH home in Ohio) on World Habitat Day, 2010. We dedicated our second home in August 2011 and our third home in currently under construction and will be completed and dedicated in November of this year. The family will be in their new home by Thanksgiving. Praise God! To celebrate World Habitat Day, our affiliate will sign our fourth partner family for our spring 2012 build in Continental, Ohio. This family of four is currently renting a 50 year old house trailer that they heat with two space heaters in the winter.

Why I volunteer I am now in my second year as President of the Board of Directors and my wife is the office managers. We are both retired teachers and feel this is the time in our lives to give back to the community. Habitat offers us a means to put our faith into action. As Millard Fuller said in "The Theology of the Hammer:" "The challenge of the Bible is to let our light so shine in dark places that others can see our good works and glorify our Father who is in heaven. We can blind each other by only shining our light inside the church.”
