About my experience I've always had amazing experiences with habitat! I loved building a house from a concrete base up; I loved working with different people from around the country. I generally loved what I was doing. My habitat experience this particular year though was very emotional. I chose to go to Mississippi due to Hurricane Katrina a few years prior. The first day we arrived on the work site, the young man from AmericaCorps made it very clear that the houses we were working on that week were going to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Later in the week, we met a family with 3 young children who came in work on their house...the house I happened to be working on as well. They told my group and I their story of the fear of the unknown, their anxiety and also of their thankfulness. They never once had a dry eye. Hearing them speak, hearing of the pain they went through during that time, made me realize on a whole new level what I was doing and why I was doing it. I had always known, but I've never seen it in a homeowner's eyes. That day I saw it, and I'll never forget it.
