Chiang Mai, Thailand (November 2009)

About my experience This was my first experience traveling out of USA with Habitat and it was amazing. I participated in the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter Work Project, where for five days, thousands of us built 82 homes. There were parades, fireworks, dignitaries, celebrities, which was all very exciting. There were also quiet touching moments with the future home owner families. The picture I'm sharing I call "Bridging the language gap with a piece of string". I don't speak Thai, so we shared some laughs and fun using a piece of string and playing cats cradle and other games with it. Wouldn't it be great if we could all bridge societal, cultural and political gaps with a simple piece of string?
Why I volunteer It is the most fulfilling way to spend a vacation. You get to see the world, learn about another culture, meet people, try new foods, explore a new city AND HELP ANOTHER! What could be better?
