About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience This summer I celebrated my tenth team to Beius Romania in a special way - We built the house in one week! I thank Fid, Lori, Helen, Alicia, Miranda, Manuela, Zach, Joel, Ty, Greg, and Brett for their love and hard work on the site. You left much more than just your name on the plaque of the house! I thank Claudiu, Robi, Nelu, Marcel, Mihai, and Ionut for being wonderful teachers on the work site and friends off of it. I thank Emil Popa for his translations and helping me learn Romanian to all the wonderful pictures so we can remember the 10th build forever. I thank the Garvas for welcoming me so warmly into their home as if I am their daughter. And I thank Emil, the godfather of Beius, for all his time and patience in making my trips special each year and for the great friendship that has developed over the years. Why I volunteer Habitat for Humanity is an amazing organization. It is not a hand-out but a hand-up to our fellow human beings. it gives people a chance to acquire the dream of homeownership and changes the lives of not just the families, but everyone involved. I am different person because of my Habitat experiences.
