About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience We helped to build two Habitat homes in the Hawaiian Homelands Development in Wailuku. My husband and I were 'team leaders' who recruited volunteers from our realtors association on a pretty regular basis to work on the houses. The project took well over a year. In both cases the homeowners had been waiting for years to have their own home and had been on the waiting list. The one we were most involved in was for a single mom with two boys. We still have a relationship with her. She has since remarried and had another baby, and we have attended their wedding and birthday party and blessing for the baby. It's an honor to have been able to make a meaningful contribution.

Why I volunteer I feel that it's so important for families to have a home of their own where they are safe with good shelter. Habitat is making a big difference in people's lives.
