About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience My husband and I completed our fifth Habitat Build in Sri Lanka and our first in Matale. We love working with the people there. A Sri Lankan smile is something special. We had a great team of 14 people and worked on 7 houses and dedicated 4 of them. The fifth was almost done and the other two were well on their way. Sri Lanka is "a land like no other" and will always hold a special place in our hearts. We will do our next Habitat build in Matale July 2012.

Why I volunteer Habitat has a mission to build simple affordable houses. It works because the families build and pay for the house which gives them such a sense of pride and achievement. We work with the family and share breaks and food with them.
