About my experience I was fortunate to lead this trip with my coworker and good friend, Liza. Our team built a house on stilts - a first for me. We had a great time working with the people of Fiji, and getting to know them and their culture as we dug holes for the posts, bailed alot of water out of those holes, and began work on the floor and frame of the house. We weren't able to finish the house, but we made great progress. We recently saw a photo of the completed home, and I think it's safe to say that we were all proud and excited.
Why I volunteer I volunteer with Habitat because I believe that God calls me to it. In a way, I would call it my vocation. I have been blessed to have always had a decent place to live and never having to worry if I would have a place to call home. The issues of poverty and housing have been placed on my heart. Volunteering with Habitat seems to me to be the perfect way to help to meet the needs of so many people around the world and to answer God's call.
