About my experience So what did we really do and did we really make a difference to anybody. Each and everyday, our mere presence made a difference to the people around us. The houseowners did get help from us and the lives of the local children were made joyous even if only for a few days. The Habitat name was proudly displayed and so this organisation got some exposure. But above all, we all learnt a great deal this week. My team learnt that simple things can be very difficult here. I was amazed to see how strong the local laborers are! I learnt that I am not as strong as some of the local men (or women!). The local people work really hard and often have very little income. We also learnt about cultural differences - I have been educating my team and teaching them about these differences for many months but to see it for real makes a big difference. Above all, I think that each member of the team learnt about themselves. They learnt about their own strenghts and weaknesses and realised (I hope!) that you dont need much to be happy. I truly feel that they are now more appreciative about what they have rather than be complaining about what they dont have. We have learnt to work and play as a team. Yes, we did go to India to make a difference to a poor person. But this week, I have learnt that I am that poor person. More details on www.teambolina.com
Why I volunteer I continue to work with HFH because I want to grow as a human being.
