About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience I led a group of Global Village volunteers to work on a Habitat project just south of Santiago, Chile. Here, Habitat's local staff was concentrating on a unique project at the time - helping families build additions/improvements to their existing homes. The improvements were being made to help families who had children with chronic or life-threatening health conditions - so they could ensure their children could live in healthy environments at home, rather than have to stay in a hospital or institution elsewhere. Among the three families we worked alongside on this trip, I best got to know the Robledo family, as we helped them build better living space for their 14-year-old daughter, Gladys.
