About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience The wonderful, simple, hard-working people helping neighbors rebuild homes, cities after the earthquake in ; very little wood to build with; we mixed sand and concrete and water using hand tools on steel plates, moving the concrete in pails along bucket begrades, and sometimes using pulleys to hoist the pails up to the roof line; the food was fabulous, so fresh and abundant; learning the history of this small land-locked country once a part of Soviet Union until'98, surrounded by Gerogia, Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkey, making it difficult for the inhabitants to move goods in or out; and I came to have glimpses of their anchient cultlure and Orthodox Christian religion. It is currently trying to establish itself a a strongold of western-type democracy.
