About the Habitat Map App

In celebration of Habitat′s 500,000th and 500,001st milestone and World Habitat Day, we’ve created the Habitat Map App to encourages volunteers to tell us where they’ve built with Habitat for Humanity. Our goal is to create a dynamic representation of 35 years of Habitat volunteer experiences around the globe. Add your previous experience and tell us--what was it that made your Habitat experience memorable? Then help us spread the word by sharing with your friends and family.

About my experience My first trip abroad! I traveled from New Orleans to NYC alone, and met up with some of the team there. The most amazing experience for me was standing beside a man who was a new friend as we raised the first wall of the house he never thought he'd own! What a powerful moment! A few years after that build, I built in Alaska and New Mexico. I was also a part of the Musician's Village build here in New Orleans along with my former student, Harry Connick Jr. I've gotten older and less mobile, so my volunteering is mostly from my wallet, but I encourage anyone who'll listen to work with, and donate to,HfH.

Why I volunteer The basic truth of Habitat--that everyone deserves simple, decent housing--is what drives me.
